Although McCain has been in the Senate since 1987 people don’t really know the real McCain. He has promoted an image. That image is tarnished, but it needs to be completely stripped. Personally I would begin by painting McCain as the crazy Dr Strangelove character he threatens to be. Remember the movie and the role played by Peter Sellers? This is no movie.
As we have come to learn, things don’t always work out as originally planned. That’s when old sayings are dragged out to give reason. The sardonic smartypants jokes like,”It’s Murphy’s Law”or” The best laid plans go astray”.This was one of those times. Instead of being able to write at a leisurely pace, I was about to enter a high pressure literary and political reporting race requiring a lot of homework, and a highly disciplined workload.
Where has the “US leads the way” spirit of the 1960’s America gone? The “we can do anything attitude” that made America the envy of the world? The smiling faces, the confident walk, the pride in one’s country. An America which demanded, sought and sweated for a better life and achieved it with one income per family in record time, after the horrors and sacrifices of World War two.
We as citizens of other countries (aka foreigners) would be out of our cotton pickin’ minds if we didn’t study or follow what was happening in the United States, the world’s superpower. In particular making an effort to learn something of it’s history, its people, its multiculture and its form of national government, warts and all.
The current catchcry from the Democrats and the disillusioned is “We need to take back our country”.Very noble, I’m sure. Sounds like something straight from the movie “Braveheart,” invoking images of raging Scots charging across the battlefield towards the English army and oblivion at Culloden in 1746, in a desperate final and failed fling, to rid themselves of an English King. Americans historically can identify with that goal.
I jokingly held my finger to my lip, “Shhh.” Seriously, who wants to advertise their Americaness these days? This larger-than-life man with a jolly smile threw his hands up in the air, pointed down to me and said to all around, “She’s American!!” He then said boisterously, “Look, we like you, we still love America, we just hate your president.” I tried my hardest to convince him, “He’s not my president.”He and others around me said, “Yes he is.
With those powerful words Donna Brazile stood tall. She sent a signal to every DNC member charged with the responsibility of making a fair decision on Florida and Michigan that if America was to have regard for the basic principles endowed by the country’s founding fathers, respect for and adherence to rules and laws was essential.
A Telling Thoughts Opinion
My comments on one segment of an article in The New Republic titled - “What Went Wrong?” by Michelle Cottle. May 16th 2008/
Quote: The New Republic article - Introduction
The exclusive story of Hillary’s fall, as told by the high-level advisors, staffers, fundraisers, and on-the-ground organizers who lived it. So it is that we asked (begged, really) [...]
The real question on May 6th, is will the voters of North Carolina and Indiana consider the needs of their country, their state and their fellow citizens, or will they fall for the political bribe of a measly fist full of dollars involved in the short term gas tax deal offered by Hillary Clinton. A proposal so flawed it was rejected by no less an authortity than the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and 150 Economists in a signed letter.

By Catherine Dodge and Karen Leigh
April 26 (Bloomberg) — Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, campaigning in Indiana, put their focus on the economic concerns of job losses and the rising cost of health-care, education and gasoline as they tried to appeal to middle-class voters.
“I looked around the [...]
