McCain’s Fiji Holiday Letter / A Farce

A Telling Thoughts Comment …

In the past two months, efforts to have Anasuya Dubey, the claimed author of the letter titled, My Holiday with McCain come forward, or at least prove media contact with  regard to its possible publication, have come to no avail.

As a result, and in the absence of any evidence to the contrary,Telling Thoughts has no option but to declare the letter a farce and a deliberate and unscrupulous attempt to damage the McCain campaign.

Telling Thoughts accepts that the behaviour attributed to John McCain in the letter, based on his history, is quite plausible, however I am interested in publishing fact, not someone’s fiction for their political purposes. To do otherwise would mean applying the same base ethical standards as does John McCain, in the way he conducts his campaign. And that is  unacceptable.

If the letter is a true account as claimed, I have no proof of that. Unless the author can convince myself and the public, before the election, then my opinion will stand. She has my number and email address.

  1. John,

You have acted with total integrity and responsibility toward your readers. No one can do more! Thank you for all your efforts to determine the accuracy of the allegations in “McCain’s Fiji Holiday.”

  2. I received this email today and I also have issue with forwarding it particularly to people I know will send it on. It probably is true but rather frustating that the author “ana” won’t come forward. Though it looks as though Obama will win.. any account of Mccain that is so very terrifying in regards to his integrity and character is obviously an important factor in electing the leader of our country. I am frustated that if true the author and other’s who were there don’t come out and claim it.

  3. I think probably Ana saw what happened to joe the plumber and figured she did not want that to be her. they dig up your taxes, personal associations, and everything. With Obama comfortably leading in the race, why mess with it. You have done the right thing John by pursuing this, but doing so with caution. thanks.

  4. Was there every a final outcome to this? SNOPES carried the story with “Undetermined” through the election and for about two weeks afterward. Now it has disappeared from their web site (curious in of itself). I sent an eMail to them and received a form reply not to expect a reply. If the story was true, I think McCain should still be pilloried. If False, then the author ought to come forward and admit it and apologize. What was the final outcome? Did any of the reported “big media” (Washington Post, NY Times, among others) who were supposedly pursuing the story track it to ground?
