Floridians wait 11 hrs for/ Obama + Video

TAMPA — Edmond Farquharson of Miami didn’t want to miss Barack Obama in Tampa today, so he showed up at for the event today 11 hours early.

The Thomas family arrived next, about three hours later, and lined up behind him arrived at 4:30 a.m. By 11:30 a.m., there were no lines and people were moving swiftly through the 25 metal detectors set up.

Obama’s noontime rally at the St. Pete Times Forum drew a crowd  of just over 14,000 in  the home of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning that seats 19,500. More than 40 Tampa police traffic officers were working the event, double the usual present for a hockey game, she said.

State Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, said his support for Obama goes beyond the color of his skin. Clinton will make three stops in Southeast Florida today, including an event at Century Village.

Obama is in the Sunshine State f or three days, including Tampa and Orlando today, Boca Raton tomorrow and Miami and Sunrise on Friday.
